Prescriptions
Please follow the guidelines and choose the right option for you.
Ordering a repeat prescription
You can order your repeat prescription via any of the following methods:
- Using your NHS account (through the NHS website or in the NHS App)
- Using our online service (SystmOnline)
- By phoning the medicines order line (MOL) on 01158 550 260, 8am to 2pm, Monday to Friday
- By completing the medicines order line (MOL) online form, available 24/7
Please note: We are unable to accept prescription requests via surgery telephone or at reception.
Collecting your prescription
Prescription requests can take up to 5 full working days to process before it is sent to your pharmacy for dispensing.
Please order your prescription early enough to allow time for processing. We ask that patients reorder when you have 7 days of medication remaining.
Please only contact the surgery if 5 full working days have passed and your medication is still not ready at the pharmacy.
You will need to choose a pharmacy to collect your prescription from. We call this nominating a pharmacy.
Learn how to nominate a pharmacy
You can change your nominated pharmacy at any time:
- on the app or website where you order repeat prescriptions
- at any pharmacy that accepts repeat prescriptions
Questions about your prescription
If you have questions about your medicine, your local pharmacists can answer these. They can also answer questions on medicines you can buy without a prescription.
The NHS website has information on how your medicine works, how and when to take it, possible side effects and answers to your common questions.
If you would like to speak to someone at the GP surgery about your prescription, please contact us.

What to do with old medicines
Take it to the pharmacy you got it from or bring it in to the surgery. Do not put it in your household bin or flush it down the toilet.
Aligning your medication
Do your medications run out at different times throughout the month? To make managing them easier, you may benefit from a medication alignment.
Next time you order your medication, please use the Medication Alignment Request form to let us know the remaining quantities of all your medications. We will adjust your prescription so that moving forward, all your regular repeat items can be ordered together.
About pharmacists
As qualified healthcare professionals, pharmacists can offer advice on minor illnesses such as:
- coughs
- colds
- sore throats
- tummy trouble
- aches and pains
They can also advise on medicine that you can buy without a prescription.
Many pharmacies are open until late and at weekends. You do not need an appointment.
Most pharmacies have a private consultation room where you can discuss issues with pharmacy staff without being overheard.
